Flower Festival to proceed on schedule in Lompoc

The 1971 Lompoc Valley Flower Festival will run June 25 26 and 27 with nine clubs and organizations sponsoring queen candidates. New sponsors include Active 20-30 Club American Legion Club Arcturus Cabrillo Boosters Elks Jaycees Kiwanis Lions and Lompoc Democratic Club and Democratic Women's Club. A queen candidates workshop will be held Thursday and ticket sales follow the Queen Contest Tea on March 28 with sales ending June 10. The coronation ball is set for June 12.

City seeks manufacturing firms to boost Lompoc economy

Three manufacturing companies are considering locating in the Lompoc area. One plants training devices for ceramic schooling in Los Angeles, another makes aerospace laboratory products in Central California, and a large eastern glass maker is eyeing silica resources here. Chamber to discuss Valley water situation

Lompoc Valley Chamber of Commerce members will get an update on the Valley water situation from Virgil Phelps at a noon general meeting in the Valley Club. Phelps chairs the City Water Commission and serves on the Santa Ynez River Water Conservation District board, outlining Narrows Dam status, Diablo Canyon desalination plans, and the State Water contract with Santa Barbara County.

Council weighs utility rate hikes and waste fees

South Vietnamese withdraw from Laos posts amid river of U.S. airpower

South Vietnamese troops abandoned four fire bases along the Ho Chi Minh Trail in Laos, with 2000 men pulled from Lolo and Brown as U.S. artillery, fighter planes, and helicopter gunships aided the evacuation amid heavy antiaircraft fire.
