Admrials press Bucher in Pueblo court inquiry

Five admirals pressed Lloyd Bucher with hostile questions about the Pueblo loss as the court of inquiry enters its eighth week. Pueblo crew sought tax relief over Korea captivity pay

Legislation in both houses would relieve Pueblo sailors from federal income tax on back pay received during captivity in North Korea. The Navy paid Jan 24, 1968 to last month without withholding, and the IRS said taxes would be due April 15.

Vegas Showgirls Demand Strike Over Weekend Deals

Vegas showgirls authorized AGVA to strike if talks with Nevada Resort Hotel Association fail. About 400 dancers attended in the Convention Center and Penny Singleton led potential action, with a 12:01 a.m. Friday start proposed. The union seeks a six day work week at 246 dollars weekly, up from 193. Negotiations continued with a Thursday meeting to decide on offers. Low temperatures grip nation with heavy snow in parts

United Press International reports a late-season cold snap across the country. Subzero readings dominated the West and Northern Plains while the South saw temperatures in the 20s and rain along the Texas and Louisiana coasts. Snow fell up to five inches in New Hampshire and more than a foot in New Mexico with two feet in Arizona.

Pre-school story hour scheduled at city library

The East North Avenue library opens a twice weekly pre-school story hour from March 18 for children ages three to five who have not attended kindergarten. Sessions run 10 to 10:30 am on Tuesdays and Fridays with no charge. Registration is underway by phone at RE 6.3477 or in person this week.

Dead gray whale washes ashore at Ocean Beach

A 33 foot 30 ton gray whale lay on Ocean Beach in San Francisco after a Tuesday carcass wash up. A back gash suggested ship or harpoon damage. The Coast Guard was not expected to remove it as a navigation hazard and city officials planned action soon. Hundreds gathered despite the strong smell while one hippie briefly stood atop the whale.

Saturn 5 rolled to launch pad for moon mission

The Saturn 5 mega rocket was moved to the launch pad at Cape Kennedy for a readiness test ahead of a mid May moon mission carrying Stafford Young and Cernan. A March 19 Intelsat 3 flight was delayed likely to early April for repairs. UNM faces student protests over worn furniture and hosiery costs for 7 000 coeds estimated at 448000 yearly.
