Lompoc youth charged after street dispute near high school

An 18 year old from Lompoc Ronnie Eugene Fleming was arrested for battery after a dispute with a housewife Beverly Hodges near Lompoc High School. Fleming posted 300 dollar bail. Meanwhile Ernest Niehoff bound over for Santa Maria Superior Court on eight burglary counts with 5000 dollar bail. He allegedly burglarized homes in Vandenberg Village with prior arrest by sheriff detectives. The Central Coast Laryngectomee Club to meet March 10 1974 in Santa Maria. A mobile x ray unit will give free chest X rays March 11 at the Veteran's Memorial Building from 3 5 and 6 7 30 p m for ages 15 and up.

LaRue Named City Editor Of Lompoc Record

Steve LaRue 30 was appointed city editor of the Lompoc Record by Harry Crompe. He will oversee design and layout, wire copy, and staff direction while continuing coverage of city hall and his Monday column Common Ground. LaRue is a UC Berkeley graduate and former Daily Californian editor.

Burglars Loot Vandenberg Village Home While Dog Feeds

Burglars forced entry at 3815 Jupiter Ave into David Maddox home and stole power tools stereo equipment and other goods valued near $2,000 while family was away. Four large bones found by the dog after the break in. Separate shed at 118 North St reported looted of tools and a battery charger valued at about $225. Incident dated between Feb 28 and yesterday.

City election still undecided as results show incumbents favored

After the final precinct total, candidate Bock questioned messaging and advertising spending. He spent about 1000 for his campaign and mused on 1976 plans. Incumbent Benton noted 497 spent and expressed gratification that experience mattered, while a theory circulated that many new candidates split votes helping incumbents. Charles Carmichael defended his showing despite 1432 votes saying his message was not clearly heard.

Obituary for longtime Lompoc educator Arthur Hapgood

Arthur Richard Hapgood died after a lingering illness at Lompoc Hospital aged 91. A Kansas farm boy who moved to the Santa Rita District in 1891, he taught 50 years with 26 in Lompoc schools and eight in rural schools. Hapgood retired in 1950, later tutored, and had Hapgood Elementary and Hapgood Road named after him. Funeral arrangements are pending at Starbuck Mortuary.
