The Lompoe Community Woman's Club will feature two guest speakers at a buffet luncheon on Wednesday at the Royal Coach. Dr Clarence Bloom will discuss Positive Educational Trends in Lompoe and Girl Scouts will lead the flag salute.
The Arguello Group lists March outings including a Saturday bike ride from Vandenberg Base to Honda Point with a coast route to Tranquillon Peak and an overnight camp at Mount Abel March 13-14 at Toad Springs Campground. A Mission evening hike is planned March 17. Also noted is a betrothal of Linda Joyce Strickland to William Ferguson Mahon with a March 20 wedding at Vandenberg Chapel.
Miguelito Chapter 176 Order of the Eastern Star observed a silver anniversary for eight 25-year members at the Lompoc Masonic Temple on Tuesday night. About 75 members and friends attended with four new initiates. Dr Ralph Paxton will speak next week on nutrition and mental health at the Los Padres School PTA.
Hapgood PTA schedules an evening program on television effects on kids with guest speaker Mrs. Ann Bockius of Los Padres School. The talk covers violence in programs and psychologist estimates of time children spend viewing TV compared to schooling.
The Lompoc Women of the Moose hosted a birthday celebration at Lompoc Convalescent Care Center for two residents, Joe Luis and Walter Stephens. The event featured an old fashioned sing along led by the College of Regents, with planning by Polly Willis and Sharon Wilson and support from Evelyn Hill and others. Out of town guests included Kay Cancie and Millie Iverson.
Pupils of Hapgood School created a 20 foot tall bicentennial tree in the cafetorium. Four by four construction with dowel rods forms a pine shape with north south east and west points. The display includes 50 glittered stars for the states and tubes naming countries of origin for immigrants. Visitors may view the tree during regular school hours in the next weeks.

The 55 member Westmont College Choir directed by Dr. John Lundberg will perform Sunday at Calvary Baptist Church in Vandenberg Village starting at 6 30 pm. The program includes Bach Zimmermann Brahms Ives Billings and Lundberg arrangements. Lundberg in his 29th year at Westmont has led the choir since 1960. The event is open to the public.
