Nixon to reveal stance on sealed Watergate report at hearing

President Nixon has decided on his position regarding a sealed grand jury Watergate report and will outline it at a 10 a.m. Wednesday hearing before Judge Sirica. Press secretary Ziegler said the President remains confident he will not be impeached by Congress.

White House to discuss impeachment papers with House panel

White House attorneys asked to meet with House Judiciary leaders Wednesday to review the committee request for presidential papers in the impeachment inquiry. James D. St Clair asked for the meeting but did not produce the requested White House documents, tapes, or logs. Heavy rains and warm air hit the Midwest and East with tornadoes in Illinois and record highs in Norfolk and Boston.

State Auditor Flags Housing Division Health and Safety Lapses

California state auditor Harvey Rose says the Division of Codes and Standards within the Department of Housing and Community Development failed to conduct required health and safety inspections of labor camps and mobile home parks. The 13 page report to the legislature, requested by Assemblyman Vincent Thomas, warns the lapse could endanger residents.

Kramer doubles as state official in food aid role

Washington Secretary of State A Ludlow Kramer spent the weekend in his office then returned to California to continue administering the People in Need food giveaway created after the Hearst kidnapping. Kramer and staffer Pat Colton have exhausted two weeks of vacation and are back on the state payroll in official capacity. An spokesman said Kramer will stay with the program until a major case break, ideally before month’s end, then resume an administrative rotation while drawing a state salary.

Kissinger returns from the Middle East as gasoline climbs up to 13 cents a gallon amid hope the Arab oil embargo will end soon. Energy chief counters instant experts on fuel outlook

Simon of the Federal Energy Office mocked "instant experts" predicting winter shortages and warned forecasts of spring and summer gasoline shortages may be wrong. Extortion plot against Akron publisher thwarted
