Bart Lytton, Ex-Communist Financier, Dies at 56

Bart Lytton, once owner of a $500 million savings and loan empire, died of a heart attack at 56 in Los Angeles. The flamboyant former reporter and publicist built Lytton Savings & Loan before creditors ousted him, years after a high profile Hollywood lifestyle and political donations. He had been treated for a coronary condition about a year and a half prior.

Rider’s death after volunteering to ride shotgun at Ben Het

A young GI, nicknamed born to die on a cigarette lighter, volunteers to ride shotgun for a Dak To to Ben Het convoy. He is killed in action during sustained bombardment at the besieged Central Highlands camp. The day’s routine remains deadly as artillery shells strike the outpost and troops endure harsh conditions and fear of further losses.
