Flower Festival Parade lineup PROLOGUE

A parade list outlines participants for Huntington Park and Lompoc events with color guards, bands, drill teams, mascots, and dignitaries including Captain John Young, USN Apollo 10, local officials, and civic groups. The roster spans divisions with numerous units from Civil Air Patrol to 4-H clubs and youth bands.

Flower Festival underway in Lompoc with grand parade planned

More than 50 000 visitors expected for Lompoc s 19th Flower Festival opening at 4 p m at Ryon Park with Mayor Art Scott Festival Queen Robin Densmore and court on hand. Tonight country folk group Country Faith performs and a two hour floral float parade is set for tomorrow featuring 11 floats decorated with over a million blossoms and entries from Navy Santa Maria Elks Rodeo and more. Astronaut John Young named to Apollo 16 crew will be honored guest in parade with 200 entries including bands and antique Packards from four states displayed at the shopping center Sunday.

Supreme Court weighs secret Pentagon report appeals

The Supreme Court considers appeals by the United States and The New York Times over publication of a secret Pentagon report on the Vietnam War. The Post faces possible resumption of publication at 6 p.m. local time. The Times seeks ruling on prior restraints while a lower court split exists. A grand jury probes Times access to the report. Nixon urges new attitude toward old age at Chicago speech

President Nixon told about 2,000 attendees at the National Retired Teachers Association and American Association of Retired Persons convention that federal medicare and medicaid should be cut for substandard nursing homes. He urged viewing older citizens as a resource and closing the gap with younger generations. The trip wrapped up a mid-America swing following a tribute to his late mother in Indiana.
