A 25-year-old American woman Shirley Anderson of Rochester New York was killed and a companion Eileen Bennett 27 of California injured when a Russian 122 millimeter shell hit Kalya Beach near the Dead Sea during an Israeli Jordanian artillery clash. An Arab taxi driver also wounded. The women had been teaching in the Congo and were traveling home.

Air Force expert shifts to minor-cost projects after C5A briefing

County appoints Norbert McNamara mental health director

County supervisors on Monday approved the appointment of Dr. Norbert J. McNamara as the mental health director at 28032 dollars a year. He comes from the U S Public Health Service and aided in setting up the county program years ago and will report by August 1 if possible.

Dedication Planned for New City Park at Junction of Highways 1 and 246

The Parks and Recreation Commission set a dedication for Ed Ingram Park on Thursday June 26 at 2 p.m. City dignitaries from Van denberg AFB Martin Marietta and the Gresco Plant will attend along with those involved in park formation. Mayor MacClure to speak. Mrs Ed Ingram to unveil memorial plaque. The park features include an eight space lot a pergola municipal history and a Titan missile. The commission also noted one vandalism incident in 30 days a door ripped from the J M Park concession stand with repairs estimated at 40 to 45 dollars.

Extension of taxes now seems certain

The House Ways and Means Committee voted to repeal the 7 percent investment tax credit and to extend the income tax surcharge. It approved a one year extension of federal excise taxes on telephone calls and automobiles and planned to extend the surtax, with officials stating no doubt about final approval before the June 30 deadline. Republicans warned of inflation and pledged firm stand on Nixon proposals.

Powell undecided on seeking lost seniority after ruling

Communist summit adjourns plan for bigger future meeting

The 13 day Moscow summit ended with delegates endorsing a proposed larger conference including both Communists and anti imperialist forces. The Dominican Republic alone balked saying the plan was too mild. Officials suggested the gathering could be years away and include non Communist left groups pledged to fight imperialism.
