Cmdr. Albert S. McLemore testified at a joint U.S.-Australian inquiry that he knew the Melbourne would conduct flight operations about 3 30 a.m. but had no advance notice Evans would be designated plane guard during the night of the June 3 collision. He said he was not awakened for a change of station and noted the Evans had priorly completed a similar maneuver without incident.
