Lompoc Fire Dept Seeks 2500 for 4th of July Display

The Lompoc Fire Department is raising 2500 to fund the annual July 5 fireworks at Huyck Stadium Lompoc High School. Donations can be mailed to 115 S. G St or dropped in coins in cannisters at local stores and restaurants. This marks the seventh straight year of sponsorship by the department. Volunteers transport the fireworks in a borrowed moving van and firefighters operate the display as licensed pyrotechnic operators.

Nixon wins support to continue surtax with poor exemption eyed

Suspected freeway sniper killed in Hollywood Freeway shooting

A suspected freeway sniper was shot to death after wounding an officer who tried to question him on the Hollywood Freeway near Belmont Avenue. Police identified the victim as 29 year old Donald Lee Oughton of Los Angeles. Officers said a motorist reported gunfire from across the freeway as they arrived at the scene.
