Six Faces Marijuana Possession Charges in Solvang Area
Six suspects including Evelyn Tougas of Vandenberg Village and Everett Sarot of Buellton were cited in Solvang Municipal Court for marijuana possession. All except Tougas carry an additional charge of receiving stolen property with bail set at 3125 each. Arrests occurred in and near Solvang with bookings noted early today and Sunday morning.

Pay hike rejected by court in Britain longshoremen case
A three man court headed by Lord Pearson rejected an 80 percent pay hike demand from 47 000 striking British longshoremen. It recommended overtime vacation and modernization pay increases plus a guaranteed minimum wage. Employers accepted the findings while unions call a Wednesday delegates conference to study the offer. The strike began July 15, causing an estimated 921.6 million in lost exports and imports.

Commuters flee fire near Grand Central Terminal
A dark smoke filled tunnel fire on Penn Central tracks halted all Grand Central services for nearly two hours. About 60 trains were delayed from 9:07 to 10:54 a.m. one person treated for smoke inhalation.
