Congress to renew wage hike effort in Congress this week

The wage bill to raise the minimum from 1.60 to 2.50 an hour returns to Congress with Dent steering hearings. Backers flag action in this session but expect limited House passage while labor hopes rally voters in an election year.

Budget hearings begin tomorrow in county

County supervisors schedule public hearings through July 14 to trim a 56.8 million dollar county budget for 1970 71. Administrative Officer R D Johnson sets a 9 30 a m start in the supervisors hearing room as department heads testify. Taxpayer groups and county farm bureau press for economy while welfare public protection and health spending rise. Mental health allocations also appear to grow.

California budget approved after Democratic compromise

California lawmakers approved a $6.59 billion spending plan signed by Gov. Reagan ending a spending freeze. The budget includes 102 million for local schools and a 5 percent raise for most state workers. The Senate passed 27 to 9 after Democratic concessions on education funding.
