Paper cup traps to track gypsy moth spread in Santa Barbara
County agricultural officials will deploy sticky paper cups baited with female moth scent to trap male gypsy moths and assess establishment in California. This eighth year of the statewide count notes egg masses found on trailers and outdoor items, with fears some hatch soon. The gypsy moth, introduced in 1869, has since spread across much of the northeast and beyond, aided by mobility after World War II.

Combat crew builds Minuteman classroom demonstrator at Vandenberg
Four 4315th Combat Crew Training Squadron members from the Training Aid Fabrication Branch devised a Minuteman Modernized Classroom demonstrator for the 3362nd Instructor Squadron in January 1972. Led by MSgt. Frank Christy and Sgts. Peter Mastren and Phil Perrot, they repurposed a salvaged Minuteman I trainer to assemble consoles, data groups, and a status processing unit, creating a realistic training aid used to boost weapon system knowledge and student proficiency. One console can auto-run 24 tests while other indicators are manually controlled by instructors.
