Food industry warns price freeze could crumble distribution
United Press International reports industry spokesmen warn the price freeze could collapse the nation’s food distribution system if allowed to run the full 60 days. Agriculture Secretary Earl L. Butz countered that freezes are self defeating in the long run as producers curtail output to meet consumer demand at or near production cost.

One Horse Fire Near Palm Springs Blazes On
Infrared mapper flown over California’s One Horse Fire aids containment of the year’s worst blaze. The fire near Mount San Jacinto State Park covers over 10 000 acres and remains 80 percent contained with work continuing. A 1 500 person team and an all female Morningstar Blues crew from Fresno fight rugged terrain with 12 helicopters and rope rescues. Fire began Saturday near One Horse Springs in Morongo Indian Reservation, started by fireworks. three youths questioned and released.

The FDA ordered Cheseborough Ponds Inc to recall Pertussin Nighttime Medicated Vaporizer Spray after 18 deaths in five years. The maker, based in Greenwich, Conn, said it halted sales. The FDA cites 1,1,1trichloroethane as the hazard. 17 deaths were due to misuse, while the Cleveland case involved a five year old not clearly abusive.
