Nixon signs budget and social security package amid Indochina warning

President Nixon signed a package of bills to fund government operations and raise Social Security benefits while pledging authority to resume bombing Indochina after August 15 if needed. The measure extends the debt ceiling, boosts benefits for elderly and disabled, and increases payroll taxes for higher earners, with total cost projected at 300 to 400 million dollars.

Missing fourth fishing party victim found at Cachuma Lake

The body of Julius Richardson, 28, of Los Angeles, the fourth victim from a fishing party tragedy, was recovered by divers at Cachuma Lake. The discovery ends the underwater search as Sheriff officials confirm the deaths of three companions in the June incident.

Man sought after purse snatch attempt in East Chestnut area

A woman was knocked to the ground in an unsuccessful purse theft in the 100 Block of East Chestnut Avenue. Police described a suspect wearing a bright yellow knit cap and a tan or light gray jacket or sweat suit, and they are continuing the search.

Flood Warnings Grow Across Vermont and New Hampshire

Fresh flood warnings were issued along rain swollen rivers in Vermont and New Hampshire as hundreds were driven from homes. At least eight killed, three missing or drowned in Massachusetts, with millions in damages and danger of renewed river flooding.

Obituary for Phyllis D Jenin in Lompoc District Hospital

Phyllis D Jenin 53 died Friday at Lompoc District Hospital. Rosary is recited this evening at 7 30 and prayer service tomorrow at 9 30 at McPeek Family Mortuary Chapel. She was born in 1920 in Michigan and lived in Lompoc six months at 614 North A Street Apt A. Survived by four daughters Kay Meggison Linda Barrett Susan Jenin and Kimberly Jenin mother Olive Cook sister Beverley Hackney and brother Brian Babcock two grandchildren. Friends may call at McPeek Family Mortuary through rosary time this evening and until 10 a m tomorrow.

Two Men Die In Santa Barbara Traffic Crashes

CHP reports two fatal crashes in the Santa Barbara area. Goleta's Christopher Flaten, 30, died after a head on collision with Daniel Row, 20, of Santa Barbara on Los Carneros Road. Ralph Owen Sr., 82, of Santa Barbara, died at a hospital after his car left Highway 154 and fell 300 feet down an embankment. A third crash on Highway 154 near San Marcos Ranch Road left Daniel Snuffer, 20, of Carson with minor injuries.
