Conflict of Interest Law Enforcement Urged by DA Milner
District Attorney David Milner vows to vigorously enforce the new conflict of interest law requiring officials to disclose assets and income sources. Effective January 1, the statute imposes civil penalties and possible forfeiture for noncompliance. Milner calls it long overdue and says the public has a right to know officials’ funds. Enforcement rests with district attorneys and the attorney general, with a county program to ensure Santa Barbara officials comply. The law covers county supervisors city council members mayors and planning commissioners at city and county levels.
