Garden in Not Guilty Court Plea
Donald W. Garden 19 year old Army prisoner enters not guilty plea in Superior Court to kidnapping armed robbery and burglary. Garden escaped from the D B and allegedly abducted Wallace Babe Grossi and his 10 year old nephew William Grossi Jr forcing them to accompany him as he fled. He was arrested in Carpinteria after an all points bulletin. Garden is held in Santa Barbara county jail awaiting trial on civil charges. No injuries occurred so the death penalty under the little Lindbergh law does not apply.

Vera Hull, formerly of Lompoe, is in Santa Barbara St Francis hospital with serious injuries from a Sunday night crash near Carpinteria. The car was driven by Omar Barker of Santa Paula. Hull, wife of the late Roy Hull, longtime Lompoc High principal, now resides in Santa Paula. Jacqueline Williams of Falls Montana also sustained serious injuries when her car rolled multiple times on Surf road near Lompoe early Monday. companion Thomas Bryant at USDB had minor injuries.
