A humorous home essay imagines a family running a Lost and Found in the house. Items vanish daily from pliers to a boy, with the bathroom as a notice board and breakfast table as delivery point, promising near perfect communication and smoother mornings.
The Board of Supervisors rejected a Park Commission plan for a high class restaurant and liquor sale at Cachuma Recreation Area after protests from local residents and a church. They also tabled any action on a 2.90 annual fishing fee and asked for proposals for a 129 unit trailer park with a 20 year concession in the area.
Lompoc officials argue a county wide sales tax would boost city revenues, potentially offsetting losses if the county takes a cut. Santa Barbara, Guadalupe, and Santa Maria resist sharing city tax income, fearing a loss of independence under a blanket tax plan.
The Tract A ranch in the San Julian district will host the Vaqueros de los Ranchos May ride. Pete Jackson owns the site, once part of the San Julian Rancho, praised for its beauty. Harold Tannis, ranch superintendent, organized arrangements as 100 vaqueros and 50 guests use the site as four day trek headquarters.

It lists 199 adult arrests for non traffic offenses, 59 juvenile arrests, and chief William Petersen noting burglary, drunk driving with 28 arrests, along with 44 disturbing the peace and 25 drunkenness incidents.
City officials agreed to buy five adjoining lots on South D street across from Floresta Park for a jail site at 2400 dollars. A county city office complex housing sheriff, court, and welfare offices may be built with county aid, design modeled after Santa Maria.
Lompoc and Santa Maria residents greet new Southwest timetable effective today. The Los Angeles morning flight departs 9 17 a m from Santa Maria and arrives 10 26. A San Francisco northbound flight leaves 9 55 and lands 11 48. The San Francisco afternoon flight leaves 6 40 p m and arrives 8 23. The Los Angeles evening flight departs 7 07 p m and arrives 8 16 p m.
The City Planning Commission will review amendments to the high school master building plan. Pierre Claeyssens, architect for the local school district, seeks approval of changes prompted by the abandoned M street section and the condition that no structures are built over utility lines.
Last rites are set for Monroe Sears Hamilton a longtime Lompoc auto sales and service owner who died Tuesday in Lompoc hospital. The service will be at Starbuck chapel at 2:00 pm with Rev. Paul Hall officiating. He was born August 11 1894 in Hunter North Dakota and survived by his wife Agnes Westrope Hamilton three sons Robert Bruce John F. Hamilton a brother Lyman C Hamilton a sister Mrs J P Greaves two uncles Z F Hamilton R S Hamilton and an aunt Mrs D R Gregg.
The school trustees approve a revised contract with architect Pierre Claeyssens. The deal pays 8 percent of the lowest bid and makes him pay travel costs to Lompoc from Santa Monica. If the bond election fails he has no claim. if it passes prior expenses are deducted from his fee. Claeyssens will assist with public information materials at no charge.
Lompoe High School trustees voted 4-1 to endorse and support an Army Reserve unit being organized in the valley. Major Robert Lilley Jr. outlined the Reserve Forces Act of 1955. eligible high school juniors and seniors may join and complete a six month active duty program after graduation.
Assurances were given that Lompoc will ride along with Upper Valley property owners while methods to finance and develop Cachuma water for the area are identified. It was agreed that within the next two or so weeks further steps would be outlined.
County officials, city leaders and Humane Society representatives met to review dog control. They flagged inadequate service if the northern county is served from Santa Maria and proposed adding a Humane Society worker for Lompoc Santa Ynez covering Lompoc and surrounding areas. Lompoc would contribute about 1200 dollars annually toward the program. the city now spends 1100 dollars for a pound master and 600 dollars in license fees. Under the county plan licensing, dog ads and enforcement would be handled by contract with the Humane Society.
Trustees unanimously approve a four year contract for Charles Lockwood superintendent of Lompoc schools with annual salary increases. The first year pays $9,000 rising to $10,000 in the fourth year, previously with no automatic raises.
Lompoc school boards call a public meeting in the high school library at 3 pm to explain the forthcoming school bond and special tax election. Edwin Larsen will preside, with Superintendent Charles Lockwood giving the initial talk followed by a Q and A period. Invitations have been sent to civic, fraternal, veterans, farm, and church groups to bring back information to their members.
The city council approved circulating petitions for an Improvement District on the east side. If half of property owners sign, others may curb at their expense or have the city do it, 23 000 linear feet remain to be installed to finish the paving program.
Lompoc city council to meet to wind up the punch list on the municipal swimming pool. Two days after the adjourned session, the 35 day mechanics’ lien window ends, allowing work to proceed. Architect John Cline will advise. main item is repairs to the mottled wall appearance.
Fire Chief Sten Pollard reported 1955 had the fewest general alarm fires in decades. Total losses from a major Lompoc school fire stood at 10185.67 with property at risk estimated at 2054.95. The year included 6 general alarm fires and 124 structural calls, aided by 222 inspections.
