James Edward McCloskey former Lompoc resident died January 9 in Tustin Community Hospital. He attended Lompoc High School and Santa Barbara State College, served in World War II, and co founded Electronics Associates Inc. He later owned McCloskey Associates in Anaheim. Survived by wife Kathleen Nichols McCloskey two daughters Kathryn Hoffman and Karen and sister Mrs Wesley Keys.

U S military authorities reported heavy raids on the North Vietnamese panhandle with guided smart bombs and conventional bombs. Two American aircraft were lost and eight servicemen are missing. A U S Navy A6 Intruder was shot down, two crewmen reported in South Vietnam, and a helicopter with six missing south of the DMZ was lost in bad weather.
