Police Information System Discussed At Vandenberg Meet
A Santa Barbara County law enforcement session at Vandenberg AFB chaired by Lt Col Virgil Loken drew over 20 chiefs and sheriffs from San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara Counties. They reviewed a state wide Police Information System linked to CLETS, due online by July 1974, enabling near instantaneous motor vehicle and police data for subscribing agencies. Chief James Smith of Lompoc and Sheriff John Carpenter of Santa Barbara County said their departments are programmed for the system, and Smith, chair of the Police Services task force, stressed fast information to patrolmen could save lives.
