Fuel inventories to be reported by trucking firms and railroads

The Federal Energy Office ordered 32 major trucking firms and all railroads to report current diesel and gasoline inventories by close of business. Energy Chief William E. Simon said the data will aid enforcement of the mandatory fuel allocation program amid suspected hoarding and possible penalties for violators. The move follows a DST shift and a Supreme Court denial on pricing controls affecting independent service stations.

Major storm battering Lompoc Valley continues

The storm brought hail rain and snow across the region with 3.32 inches at Lompoc water plant over the weekend raising the season total to 7.96 inches. Roads remained open though floods and closures occurred including McLaughlin Road and several intersections. Authorities reported power outages and lightning strikes while forecasts warned of another storm approaching from 250 miles southwest.

Britain Plans Ground-Level Assault at Heathrow Airport

London authorities mobilized more than 400 tank-supported troops and police on an anti-terror alert at Heathrow for a third day amid reports of a coordinated Arab terror campaign across Europe. Lompoc Storm Drain Plan Faces Bid Opening

Plans and specifications for Lompoc backbone storm drain work go to the Santa Barbara County Flood Control Board for approval before bids are invited. The $600,000 project would take six to nine months and runs from near A Street and Cypress Avenue west to D Street then north to an open channel and into the Santa Ynez River.

Food workers ratify three year supermarket contracts

About 23,000 striking food industry workers across Southern California approved new three year deals, ending a month long walkout. Teamsters, meat cutters, machinists, and operating engineers voted 6 to 1 for raises totaling 95 cents an hour over three years for most, with immediate 35 cents and an open end cost of living clause for some.
