Nixon tax reform bill predicted by key Republican senator
Senate Finance Committee member Sen. John J. Williams of Delaware predicted President elect Nixon will send a comprehensive tax reform bill after the Jan 20 inauguration. He warned that without large spending cuts, tax reform may not help the average taxpayer and suggested reducing the oil depletion allowance from 27.5 to 20 percent in three stages, estimating about $800 million in annual revenue. He also doubted proposals to curb very rich tax avoidance via exempt bonds.
