New policy in paying relief fund for a crippled welfare client
County supervisors adopt a policy to pay 130 dollars monthly for rent to keep a wheel chair bound woman with her husband and four children at home instead of placing her in a private nursing home or rehab pavilion. Deputy notes the husband earns about 160 monthly take home. Police report: Hilton Moses Mitchell, 45, arrested on drunk driving after an accident damaging a Lompoc patrol car. Minor city crashes noted for Eddie Scott and Hugh Davies in late 1968. A six year old, Tammy Bergstrom, injured in a tricycle crash with a truck. treated by private physician.

Tunnell presses new hospital pressure in county dispute
Board of Supervisors chair Curtis Tunnell says a drive to force Santa Maria Hospital to contract with private hospitals is under way. A letter from Dr. Joseph F. Ziemba and Dr. Paul R. Lee says they will stop providing anesthesia to non ward or non Medi Cal patients at the hospital in 1969. The pair will not serve private, Medicare, or first admission Medi Cal patients eligible for other facilities. A separate item notes a jewelry shop window in Wolverhampton proclaims everything must go while thieves steal 18 watches and two diamond rings.

County weighs risk of duplicating federal grant efforts
County supervisors fear a split system could duplicate work with the County Cities Area Planning Council while considering a new county comprehensive health planning organization led by Dr. Joseph Nardo. A 30 member panel would focus on slum clearance housing sewage and health facilities under the U.S. Office of Economic Development. The board tabled the issue to Jan 13 amid questions of potential parallel agencies and funding opportunities.
