De Anza reenactment marks bicentennial voyage in Santa Ynez
The 1775 1776 De Anza expedition is commemorated in a two day event in the Lompoc area with riders walkers and participants portraying Juan Bautista De Anza. Activities include a mochilla handover at Santa Rosa, a mission arrival, campus dances and a series of scheduled meals and ceremonies culminating in a San Luis Obispo milestone. Local organizers Johanna C. Hardin and Ruby Pico coordinate the program.

Dance Theater of Fresno to perform in Lompoc Sunday matinee
AAUW sponsors a Sunday 2:30 p.m. matinee by Dance Theatre of Fresno at Lompoc Civic Theater Cypress Ave and L Street. The event features pieces from The Nutcracker Don Quixote Le Cirque and a bicentennial ballet How the West Was Won with proceeds aiding the Educational Foundation Programs. The Lompoc Valley Historical Society hosts an open house at the Fabing McKay Spanne pioneer home from 2 to 5 this Sunday with donations assisting restoration efforts.

Anniversary Dinner Honors Rahman Couple at Surprise Party
Stan and Julie Rahman celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary with a dinner party at their home on February 7. Hosts were their daughter Carolyn Jara and husband John in Arleta, with guests including Robert Rahman and Claudette Rahman of Newbury Park, and many relatives. A pink three tier cake was prepared by Carolyn, with champagne served after the cake. Grandchildren in attendance included Lea Jara, 5, and others unable to attend sent greetings. A Dear Abby column and a La Purisima Council fashion show were noted in local notices.

Iris Shojinaga daughter of Mr and Mrs Takeshi Shojinaga of 253 Vega Ave Vandenberg Village has been accepted as a student at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in Los Angeles. She graduates Cabrillo High in January and will begin in March in the fashion merchandising program. The school offers a two year accredited program with a work study feature and study tours to New York and European capitals.
