Lompoc residents largely oppose the animal control proposals even as drafted to limit fowl and small animals. The council sent the ordinances back to staff for revisions to address lack of appeal, special circumstances, and a path for certain high density homes.
County supervisors urged an increase in tidelands oil royalties from 1 percent about 50 000 yearly to five or 10 percent as pressure builds on the Legislature. They referred welfare service reconsideration in Isla Vista and eyed space reallocation and worker transfer to keep services. The board also backed coastal plan alignment with state rules and approved a 25 percent budget reduction for departments funded by county taxes. They weighed a five member environmental appeals panel with several candidates and discussed north county planning hearings and a final map for Lisa Way tract.
California Public Utilities Commission hearings continue on a proposal to cut Hughes Air West fares between Santa Maria and Los Angeles and San Francisco. The Santa Maria Airport District and City of Lompoc sponsor the petition, with sessions 10 a.m. to noon and 1 30 to 4 p.m. at the Santa Maria Veterans Memorial Building.
