Senate approves wage hike for 5 million workers
The Senate Labor Committee passed a bill by 13 to 2 to raise the federal minimum wage from 1.60 to 2.00 immediately for workers at or below the threshold. The House Labor Committee backed a separate version and sent it to the Education and Labor Committee for action. The Senate plan would then rise to 2.20 within a year.
