Y Indian Guides Soap Box Derby Draws 17 Entries

The annual Y Indian Guides soap box derby attracted 17 entries with Charles Johnes of the Shoshone tribe winning first place. Tommy Dodson and Ernest Jimenez placed second and third among participants from various tribes. Fathers and sons designed built and painted the cars while tribes named groups and the program fosters father son bonding in the Lompoc area. Call the YMCA at 736-9622 to join the program.

Local PTA Hosts 15th District Founders Day Dinner

The 15th District California Congress of the PTA holds Founders Day in Lompoc at Knights of Pythias Hall with 100 plus attendees. Mrs Tony Patch of San Francisco, state president, speaks on Administrators and the PTA as district events highlight 50 years of PTA achievements and a 76 year national history. Local officials and area leaders participate with Lorenzo Dall ’Armi to receive an honorary service award.

Symposium Slated by Lompoc Historical Societies

The Lompoc Valley Historical Society hosts the 16th annual Conference of Historical Societies of Southern California February 22 to 24. Events include open houses, Vandenberg Base tour, La Purisima Mission program, and a Lompoc Flower Seed Industry panel with tours of local sites. MOW finance committee to discuss fund raising

Meals on Wheels finance committee members will meet February twelve at a patio party in the home of Rosie McIntosh at 400 North First Street. Other interested parties are invited to assist fund raising for the service. 24 elderly persons are helped daily with a nourishing hot meal for 50 cents.

Moose Women Host Friday Dinners and Events Fundraising

Moose Women host weekly Friday dinners to raise funds for a scholarship for a graduating high school senior. Menu features cabbage rolls 5:30 to 7 p.m. with 2 for adults 1 for children under 12. family cap $7. Also a Saturday Valentine barbecue and dance at the Moose Home with live music from 9 p.m.. barbecue starts 7 p.m.. donations differ.
