Tax reform bill may reach Nixon desk by Christmas
A sweeping tax package aiming to give all Americans a tax cut and Social Security pensioners a 15 percent pay rise could be on President Nixon’s desk by Christmas Day. The plan includes 1970 and 1971 revenue gains, a 5 percent surcharge continuation, and a 9.1 billion 1973 tax cut, with debate over revenue losses post-1972 and a reduced personal exemption increase to 750 in 1973.

Rock festival in limbo near San Luis Obispo
Groups of young people have arrived at the Indian Creek site 20 miles northeast of San Luis Obispo for a rock festival next weekend but local officials may stop it. County supervisors banned gatherings over 5 000 to avert a possible 200 000 attendee event. Sheriff Mansfield will meet state officials while promoter Bill Starne seeks injunctive relief arguing the ordinance unconstitutional. Starne has spent about 300 000 on bands security and facilities.
