Youth charged with assault at teen dance
A 16 year old Lompoc youth was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon after allegedly striking another teen with a metal chain outside a teen dance at the Veterans Memorial Building. The incident spurred further arrests for unlawful assembly and disturbing the peace as police and deputies dispersed a crowd of over 100 teens.

Oil slick fouls 22 miles of California beaches
Oil tides from a 21,000 gallon spill washed ashore along 22 miles of southern California beaches, with more oil lying offshore.
