Coal powered car engine promises oil free operation
San Leandro California UP I reports Marshall Owen of Owen Power Industries claims a high efficiency external combustion engine fueled by powdered coal eliminates oil changes and transmissions. He says the unit achieves 60 mph at 875 RPM with no oil to change and about 10 miles per pound of coal, equating to over 60 mpg gasoline equivalent.

Five surrender on hospital indictments
Two Camarillo State Hospital psychiatrists and three attendants surrendered on grand jury indictments into suspicious deaths at the facility. The group brings to seven the number of staff to surrender with more possible as the grand jury resumes January 3. All released on own recognizance.

Kissinger to donate papers to Library of Congress
Secretary of State Henry Kissinger will contribute his personal and official papers to the Library of Congress. The collection, spanning about 20 file cabinets, will be fully open to the public in two years or five years after his death, whichever is later, with access before then requiring security clearance and permission from the originating government department.
