Woman 20 killed in head-on Highway 1 crash near Lompoc

A Lompoc woman Peggy Diane Wornom, 20, died in a two car head-on collision nine miles south of Lompoc on Highway 1. Deborah Sampley, 21, and Cheryl Ann Mason, 21, were critically injured. The two injured were in intensive care at Lompoc Hospital. Investigators compiled details as the case developed. One car carried suitcases suggesting travel.

Airport siege ends as hijacker surrenders at San Francisco

A mentally disturbed airline mechanic held a grounded United DC8 at San Francisco International Airport for 14 hours in a frustrated hijacking.
