Plane crashes after striking power line. pilot killed in Portland

A light plane struck a power line and crashed into a Portland apartment complex killing pilot William F. Storey, 29, of Oregon City. The crash caused an eight square mile power outage. no fire, no other injuries. The wall of an apartment was breached and the plane settled in a garage driveway. Fire crews prevented an explosion.

Teen girl killed in Belfast roadblock incident

A 17-year-old Roman Catholic girl died when a vehicle carrying her collided with a British army armored truck blocking a Belfast road in Andersonstown. Two other girls and the ice cream truck driver were injured as gunmen were pursued. the death toll rose as weekend violence continued with IRA-linked bombings and arrests.

Airwest resumes partial service at 20 airports in seven states

Airwest restores partial operations today at 20 airports across seven states and Mexico. About 900 staff including pilots and crew were mobilized to run restored service while 570 mechanics had previously struck, shutting down 74 western facilities. Eleven DC9 jets will operate on routes such as Eureka to San Francisco and Las Vegas to Phoenix with planned Mexican service via Phoenix or Tucson gateways.
