Santa Maria Valley land for ranchettes prompts new appraisals
Conflicting expert testimony on whether a 40-acre Santa Maria Valley property is prime or worthless farmland led the County Planning Commission to delay a four-way lot split for Charles Doss to January 27. New reports from environmental, soil conservation, and agricultural agencies were ordered to assess long term impacts on groundwater and urban versus agricultural use.

Camping request dropped by County Planning Commission
The county planners debated allowing a camper on a 120 acre Santa Barbara Canyon Road property in Cuyama while Donald Christianson sells the land. They dropped the request after noting a shift from trailer use for a farm employee to a full-time camper residence. Some commissioners warned of HOA objections and potential expansion to weeks or months, while others argued against strict limits on a landowner staying one night. Christianson may reapply with the original proposal.
