Riders push for on road horse trails in Santa Ynez Valley
Santa Ynez Valley Riders ETI 60 led by Bob Crowe seek county approval to preserve road rights of way as horse trails. First official trail approved December 5 runs a half mile along Santa Ynez Avenue from Calzada to Refugio Road requiring 20 feet of right of way. Crowe notes the strip is the valley’s only safe riding corridor and cites plans for 72 miles of county trails along existing rights of way. The group also backs purchasing three parcels to build a public regulation size horse arena beside Santa Ynez Park for area youth. An unrelated Ballard Christmas party will be held Saturday at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Earl McCutcheon on School Street with songs, refreshments and cheer.
