Suspected killer McBride surrenders in Texas in murder case

Michael Lynn McBride 21 surrendered to police in Johnson County Jail near Dallas after a warrant was issued for murder in the stabbing death of his wife Kerry Robin McBride 17 found under a bed at their apartment in Lompoc California. The coroner cited a single stab wound to the left lung and investigators pursue weapon leads as detectives in Lompoc coordinate extradition and case details.

Water pact OK'd for State Water Project studies

The County Water Agency approved an agreement with Glen dale engineering firm Bookman Edmonston Inc to perform operational and terminal storage studies for the State Water Project. Engineer-Manager Charles H. Lawrance said the $40,000 ceiling funds urgent studies ahead of county decisions on state water and prior to November 1978 bond proposals. Robert Hedlund will sign. Robert Edmonston is noted as an expert familiar with the county.

Rain totals inch up in Santa Barbara County

Scattered light showers added measurable rain across north Santa Barbara County this morning raising the season total to about a quarter inch. Lompoc Airport measured .15 inches, Lompoc Municipal Court .18, Santa Ynez .05, Cachuma and Santa Maria .06, with 0.4 inches at the county’s wettest spot. San Marcos Pass and the broader area reported no rain by 8 a.m.

Public Defender to Represent Slay Suspect in Ventura Case

Ruben Torres a 17 year old former Lompoc resident is to be arraigned in Ventura Superior Court on December 21 on six felony counts for the slaying of Paul Yenney 17 and the beating and rape of his girlfriend Linda Fiene 18 as they walked near Channel Islands High School on October 14.

Parks Commission Denies River Park To Biker Party
