Gen Thomas S Power dies at 65 in Palm Springs funeral set
Retired Air Force Gen Thomas S Power who led SAC from 1957 to 1964 and oversaw nuclear readiness died Sunday at his Cathedral City home after chest pains. Funeral services are scheduled today at Sacred Heart Chapel. Survivors include his widow Maye. Power born in New York City earned a law degree and flew B 24 missions in World War II. He clashed with Eisenhower in 1960 over keeping heavy bombers airborne and later saw SAC bombers operate around the clock before Kennedy's inauguration.
