Lompoc High names top scholars in quarterly honors

Lompoc High School reports 56 students earned straight As in the first quarter and 295 others achieved 3.5 to 3.9. The top scholars include seniors such as Pamela Alexander and Leslie Arneson, with extensive lists of juniors, sophomores, and freshmen honored by grades.

Service members from Lompoc enter various military programs

James Patrick Weber qualified locally for the Navy High School Graduate Training Program and enlisted in the Regular Navy as a Nuclear Field specialist in Los Angeles on December 1. He is a Lompoc High School graduate class of 1969 and the son of Mr. and Mrs. John F. Weber. Airman Tommy E. Thompson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph E. Thompson of 509 North First Street Lompoc, completed basic training at Lackland Air Force Base Texas and will train in communications at Keesler AFB Mississippi. He is a 1970 Lompoc High School graduate. Army Private Daniel R. Pedersen, 23, son of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel R. Pedersen of 1505 Berkeley Drive Lompoc, arrived at Fort Lewis Washington for eight weeks of basic training at the Infantry Training Center. He will learn drill, weapons, map reading, and more. he is a 1966 Lompoc High School graduate and earned a BA in 1971 from the College of Idaho. His wife Claudia lives at 1900 East Ash Caldwell.

Eye Research Congress Highlights New Lens Advances

Dr M B Kranseler returns from Las Vegas where the 16th National Congress by the National Eye Research Foundation showcased 65 speakers. Topics included soft lenses hypnosis orthokeratology bifocal contacts low vision aids corneal tear physiology and computerized lens fitting. Attendees spanned 19 states and four foreign nations.
