Nationwide Thunderstorms Sweep From New England To Texas

Thundershowers spread rain from New England to the Texas panhandle. Eastern Oklahoma and Missouri saw one to two inches, while Kyttle Pennsylvania recorded four inches and an area near Kansas City over three inches Tuesday night. A Pedernales River flash flood warning issued in central Texas. Cool air crept into the upper plains and Great Lakes with 40s in parts of Minnesota. Lower coastal fog along the Pacific and fair skies elsewhere. Temperatures early today ranged 41 to 91 degrees.

Reagan denies report on 1976 nomination role

California Governor Ronald Reagan dismissed a UPI report claiming he pressed Ford against seeking the 1976 Republican nomination and was a top vice presidential candidate. Reagan called the tale false and said he never felt he was in consideration despite strong polling before Nixon's resignation.

FBI Joins Search for Huey Newton fugitive

The FBI joined the manhunt for Huey Newton co founder of the Black Panther Party after he jumped bail of 42 000 dollars last Friday. He faced a federal warrant for unlawful flight to avoid prosecution for a felony and had charges including three assaults to commit murder. Newton lived in a 650 dollar monthly penthouse overlooking Oakland s Lake Merritt before his disappearance.

Nixon to Face Subpoenas as New Lawyer Joins Defense

UPI reports the U.S. marshal will serve two subpoenas on former President Richard Nixon within days, including a witness demand for the Watergate cover-up trial in Washington. Funeral controls approved for low cost cremation societies

The California Senate sent AB1828 to Governor Reagan after a 22 to 8 vote. The measure places low cost cremation societies under the state Funeral Directors and Embalmers Board regulation, amid opposition from Telephase Society of San Diego and concerns over limiting choices for consumers.
