Lindbergh laid to rest in Kipahulu Maui hamlet

Flags half staff mark the burial of Charles A. Lindbergh in Kipahulu on Maui. The lone eagle died of cancer at 72 after a simple funeral held in a mission church. Relatives and neighbors attended as Lindbergh was dressed in khaki, buried in handmade coffin, and remembered for his 1927 solo Atlantic flight.

Lompoc Teachers Begin Five Day Orientation Program

About 15 new teachers join Lompoc Unified School District for a five day fall term orientation. The schedule includes a breakfast, 9 30 a m meeting, a coffee hour, a facilities tour led by Supt Glen Wegner, a noon luncheon, and an 1 30 p m introduction to building principals with further sessions Wednesday and Thursday.

Ford to Visit Romania Amid White House Activity

President Ford accepted an invitation to visit Romania from Nicolae Ceausescu and said arrangements would be made. The day included a White House prayer breakfast, a Kissinger briefing, and plans for the upcoming economic summit with mini trips on policy topics.

Stiffer 1974 75 tax bite hits Lompoc taxpayers

County auditor Paul Floyd sets the overall tax rate at 9.245 per 100 assessed value for 1974 75, up from 8.394. Education taxes rise 64 cents driven by a 54 cent increase for Lompoc Unified School District, with county levy up 13 cents and Lompoc Hospital tax up 15 cents. City rate stands at 1.68.

Desperado killer captured after Texas manhunt ends violent spree

Three escaped Colorado State Prison convicts Ulmer Williams and Magnum led a 1,000 mile crime run across Texas. Magnum was killed during a police pursuit, Williams injured, Ulmer captured. Four seek seats on Lompoc Hospital Board as one hesitates

Three filed for the Lompoc Hospital District Board of Directors for the November 5 general election to fill three seats. Incumbents Frank Signorelli and Joe Machado seek re election, Glenn Ballantyne is the other candidate, while Don Cameron will not run. John E Skaggs Jr has filed papers but has yet to take the oath, and legal questions could remove him as a candidate. If Skaggs fails to qualify the board may seat the three remaining candidates or proceed with an election, with other potential candidates known to be ready to file.
