Special district group wins point in LAFCO annexation dispute

The County Special Districts Assn. gained a concession from LAFCO after executive officer Raymond D. Johnson admitted an oversight in not requiring annexation of the 78 acre Santa Barbara Polo Club site to the Santa Barbara Metropolitan Transit District. The issue parallels a pending Kaiser-Aetna annexation in Carpinteria Valley.

Lompoc Planning Commission sets four public hearings

Four hearings tonight include revocation of a conditional use permit for A-1 Antique and Domestic auto repair on Walnut Avenue and I Street. Other items: Theodore Liss seeks an office line at 433 North D St with oil filter distribution. Charles Dillon wants a home business telephone at 1317 W Guava for servicing coin operated laundry. Sam Fox seeks permit for Dixie Court Motel units converted to apartments. An appeal on a nursery CUP on South L Street is also on the docket.

Blood Bank to Visit Ocean Avenue Alpha Club Friday

The Tri-County Blood Bank will be on hand Friday at the Alpha Club House on Ocean Avenue and B Street from 4 to 6 p.m. Mrs. F. E. Henderson reported the hours.

Chamber Drives for Fund to Complete Christmas Decorations

A chamber of commerce committee led by John Martin launched a three day drive among local businesses to raise the remaining funds for streetside Christmas decorations. They have $3,945 of a $7,000 goal and must reach $5,000 to secure a $5,000 city match from Lompoc. Total decoration costs are estimated at $12,000 per Earle Sweetland.

Sign of time thefts told

The Sheriff's Department investigates three thefts possibly tied to shortages. Fifty gallons of gasoline were stolen from the Wilks Ranch on Bailey Avenue west of Lompoc, and a Hereford cow carcass shot on the Jalama Ranch south of Lompoc was found with hind quarters missing. A small amount of gasoline was stolen from a car on Saturn Ave in Vandenberg Village.

Arrest announced on kidnap charge in Tracy Greenfield case

A 45 year old man identified as Robert Lee Ray was arrested on kidnapping and rape charges in the abduction of 11 year old Tracy Greenfield. Ray claimed to be a screenwriter and used multiple names. The victim was found unconscious and later regained consciousness at UCLA Medical Center.
