Joe Del Masso, a former Vandenberg AFB officer, plants and cares for about 100 peach trees on his acre along Cottonwood Street. He developed a yet unnamed peach and is registry seeking for another with Indian Red lineage. The orchard yields, is shipped regionally, and he pursues nectarine hybrid work while maintaining mining claims in northern California.

Special meeting on Santa Ynez sewer grant set
The Santa Ynez Community Services District calls a special meeting for Thursday at 7 p.m. at 3622 Sagunto Street to review an investigative study on land disposal site options, seek State Water Board concept approval, and discuss borrowing for design work following FHAs approval of 1.25 million in loan and grant funds. The district received 750000 loan and 500000 grant repayable over 40 years at five percent.

The 29th annual chicken barbecue at Nojoqui Falls Park is set for Saturday, Sept. 3 at 6 p.m. with a menu featuring barbecued chicken, beans, corn, bread, tomatoes, coffee, milk and ice cream. Judge John Gudmund and Richard Belcher of the U S Navy Reserve lead the program arranged by Arnie Meisgeier. Gudmund is a Navy Reserve captain. The club plans a Sept 16 birthday party at the Santa Ynez Valley Recovery Residence in Solvang and will run a soft drinks and Danish cookies booth at Danish Days in Solvang on Sept 17 and 18. Co chairs Charles Greenwald and Arne Hansen report Solvang Danish Days will run Sept 17 18 with events starting Sept 16. The festival attracts 35000 to 50000 people and features a Vikings film opening night a grand ball flags breakfast horse riding music and dance performances and Scandinavian cultural programs.
