Vance and China reach stated aim of normalizing ties

July 1977 Foreign Trade Deficit Fourth Highest On Record

The Commerce Department reports a July deficit of 2.3 billion dollars, below June’s peak but still the fourth largest ever. Exports reached 10.14 billion while imports fell to 12.47 billion, with declines led by oil and coffee. The year’s total deficit hits 14.9 billion, amid 14 consecutive monthly shortfalls.
