Voyager 2 launches despite rough start toward Jupiter

Voyager 2 appears to function well after a shaky Cape Canaveral launch. Arson Suspect Faces Court Hearing in Santa Maria

Eddie Dean Mitchell an 18 year old resident of 829 West Cherry Avenue is scheduled for a readiness and settlement hearing before Superior Court Judge Robert L. Trapp in Santa Maria. He is charged with arson for a July 2 fire at Ryan Park that destroyed $50000 in youth athletic equipment and gutted a youth concession stand and an additional burglary charge has been added. Mitchell has pleaded not guilty and is represented by Kenneth Biely. The hearing will determine admissible evidence and set a trial date.

Santa Ynez to get 1.25 million for sewer system

The Santa Ynez Community Service District wins 1.25 million dollars in federal funds for a sewage system serving about 260 users. A 750 thousand dollar grant and 500 thousand dollar loan at five percent for forty years were approved by FmHA. Possible plans include linking to Solvang or building a local plant with a late 1978 start and 18 to 24 month construction.

Lompoc Record Increases Home Delivery Price

The Lompoc Record raises home delivery from 2.50 to 2.85 per month effective Sept 1, with out of county mailing up to 3.75 and in county mailing at 2.85, News rack stays 15 cents. Armed forces receive in county rate. carriers get 20 percent of the increase.

Crash Kills Lompoc Pair In Sunday Night Wreck

Two Lompoc residents died when Eugene Rowe 28 and Linda Kiely 21 were killed in a crash on Rucker Road near Lompoc Casmalia Road. Kiely was a passenger in Rowe's car, which authorities say was on the wrong side and spun out after sideswiping a car driven by Sherry Stewart. Funeral services for Rowe are pending.
