Lady golfers vie for best nine at Vandenberg club

From a field of 25, Vandenberg Country Club women teed off Tuesday to contest nine holes. In flight one Ginny Sphar won first, Ann Gowdey second, Norma Stillman third. Flight two saw Joyce Campbell first with Irene Sperber Mabel McClendon and Dorothy MacClure tying for second. Flight three had Billie Carlson first Barbara Murdy second and Pat Brooks third.

Jr Alpha Club Fashion Show Aboard Showboat Sensation

The Jr Alpha Club staged a fashion show on the Showboat Sensation that drew about 175 attendees and raised 287 dollars for community youth. Mary Braun and other locals modeled as 44 entrants paraded lounge to sports attire with local merchants supplying outfits and door prizes.

WWI Veterans and Auxiliary Convene in Lompoc Meeting

Philip Bo Quinn the Veterans Service officer spoke on conventions and legislation for WWI Veterans and Auxiliary at the Lompoc Barracks meeting. A pot luck luncheon followed with 27 attendees as reports from the Sacramento convention highlighted California leading the nation with 12 570 auxiliary members.

Coming and going in local families this month

Rodney and David Martin, sons of Mr. and Mrs. Mark Martin of 4182 Sir ius, visited grandparents in San Jose then flew with David’s grandfather to Boise Idaho for a month on his uncle Dee Snodgrass’s ranch in Buhl. Rodney stays in San Jose and will join later. Karen Libby visits Santa Barbara with grandmother then heads to Tustin to stay with an aunt. Deanne Dulketh joins Karen in Lompoc. Keith Libby travels to Tustin to visit once the girls return.

Catalina tour honors 4 Hers

Mary Hayes reports that Joanne and Peggy Machado of the Mission Vieja 4-H Club earn a Santa Catalina Island trip as deserving 4-H members for completing four high school years. Sponsored by the Santa Barbara Farm Bureau, the tour includes Wrigley’s Arabian Horse Ranch buffalo viewing a glass bottom boat ride and a visit to an ancient Indian burial ground.

Friends gathered at John Smiths home last week to sing and pour flower petals for his 0th birthday.
