The plan calls for universal work or training registration for able recipients and placement when available. It expands job training and day care to move welfare recipients toward self reliance. It would set uniform federal minimums for aid to the elderly blind and disabled, and guarantee a basic income foundation for families in need with specific annual supplement amounts. The federal share would cover about $4 billion in the first year with states retaining 90 percent of current costs and no mandatory increases.

Malicious Fire Destroys Peace Symbol In Lompoc Yard

Police investigate the Sunday burning of a Peace symbol on Edmund C. Lange’s lawn at 516 North Third Street in Lompoc. No immediate leads were reported as the incident was discovered shortly before 4 p.m. Fire investigators and patrol units responded, and authorities reviewed nearby surveillance for clues.

Mobile X Ray Unit Visit Announced for Veterans Memorial

The mobile x ray unit will be at the southeast parking lot of the Veterans Memorial Building at H Street and Locust Avenue on Monday August 11. It operates from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Chest x rays are free for anyone 15 years or older.

Lom pop City Council postpones special session

A special session to review business licenses was postponed from tomorrow to allow councilmen to attend a day long conference planned by the state division of highways in Santa Barbara. The special session is tentatively set for August 26.
