Flood Control District actions on bids and drainage projects
The County Flood Control and Water Conservation District approved bid openings for the Orcutt earth channel unit No. 2 project with Arthur Q. Evans of Lompoc as low bidder at 14880 dollars. They also voted to execute a joint agreement with Santa Maria and other parties for a flood control channel by the airport. A joint powers agreement for Butterfly Lane drainage in Montecito was approved to curb severe flooding near Coast Village Road and the Santa Barbara Biltmore Hotel. Shared costs total 286:500 from the Road Department and district, with state funding of 17649 dollars for highway right of way work. An agreement for Connie Way storm drains in Goleta Flood Zone No. 1 was filed, and Norman Caldwell cited repeated panic flood calls. The Lompoc Flood Control plan was presented, and Cobey Alquist Act work proceeds with a six month extension to comply. The county expects to prevent encroachments in floodways during this period.
