California Gov. Ronald Reagan blasts a three judge commission named by the Nixon administration, calling for their resignation unless they conduct field investigations of the CRLA. He says hearings in San Francisco are adversarial while CRLA cites a telegram indicating the panel should gather testimony on the record. The panel, chaired by Robert Williamson, includes three state supreme court justices and critics accuse the administration of vendetta over welfare and legal aid cuts.
Allied commands report a sharp decline in Communist activity in South Vietnam while fighting flared along Highway 4 in Cambodia. Saigon did not issue its morning communique for the third time since 1966. Cambodian reports say at least six government troops were killed and 33 wounded in four hours of fighting ending at dawn.
