Lt. Col. H Miles McFann and his son Petty Officer 2 C Miles T McFann received Silver Star medals for separate acts of heroism in World War II and Vietnam. Col McFann earned his in 1943 aboard a B 17 after enemy fire crippled the aircraft near Paris. his son earned his during a Vietnam search and destroy mission in Quang Nam Province.
