Resurrection of Lompoc Cross Brightens Local History
The 22 foot reinforced concrete cross on the hill above Lompoc, erected December 5 1912 to commemorate the La Purisima Mission, has long drawn curiosity. City hall staff know little about ownership, maintenance is done by the electrical utilities department, and vandalism past includes a 1920s fire engine red paint incident linked to the Ku Klux Klan.
