USSR backs sanctions and possible expulsion of Israel from UN

The Soviet Union said it would support sanctions against Israel and possibly expulsion from the United Nations over Tuesday's Beirut raid that killed Palestinian leaders. Ambassador Malik voiced backing for Arab demands and urged strong action after repeated Security Council condemnations. Egyptian officials debated presenting a formal expulsion proposal on the UN’s 1948 recognition anniversary.

Regional board bars FCI sewage to Santa Ynez River

The Water Quality Control Board ordered the Federal Correctional Institution to stop discharging sewage into the Santa Ynez River effective upon completion of the Lompoc Valley Regional Sewerage System or by July 1 1975. Lompoc officials urged excluding FCI from the regional plan and shifting to a separate project. Mayor George Cotsenmeyer presented the case citing nonconformance and potential river degradation.

Mississippi River rises as Yazoo floodwaters threaten Eagle Lake area

The Mississippi River, highest in 35 years at Vicksburg, crested near 50.4 feet and rose further on Friday. Yazoo River water breached Muddy Bayou Dam, threatening 150 Eagle Lake families with possible evacuation as officials rushed rock to reinforce the dam.

Unfreezes 507 Million in Impacted Aid for 4700 Districts

The U S Office of Education announces 507 million in impacted aid funds will be disbursed next week to about 4700 districts with many federal employees' children. Of the total 415 million goes to maintenance and operations 24 million to construction and 69 million to Agnes disaster aid.
